Vang Vien Laos

After one of the more brutal travelling experiences I have had, the reward of Vang Vien was well accepted.

Looking west from our guest house.

After a short recharging nap we headed west to what we called "Ant Hill" for a good vantage point.

On top of the Ant Hill.
The sharp limestone rock is not great to climb in flip flops.

On our way back down we passed some girls who warned us of a big snake at the bottom of the trail. When we got down we couldn't find the snake because........

The locals were already cutting it up for snake stew. I asked to see the head but they already fed it to the puppy.

Notice they pretty much eat everything including the eggs.

YUMMY!!!
The local guys made it clear that this stew acts much like our Viagra.

This guy was trying to sell me his homemade snare trap for 60 cents. I would have bought it if I knew how to travel with it (like so many other things I want to buy).

Sunset day 1.

I think they sell more umbrellas for shade than they do for rain.

We rented bikes again and went for a 40Km loop ride.

Nice rental bikes.

Hunter has a way with the butterflies.

Hunter taking the plunge into the Blue Lagoon.

I was more or less forced to jump due to the army ants attacking my feet as I got to the top branch.

After the lagoon we headed into the Tham Poukham caves.

Into the abyss.

Cave dementia. "Did I go this way or that way"

After slipping and tripping over every rock we finally see the light back to the opening of the cave.

I ran into this Irishman named John that said he was looking to sell his bike so I bought it for $250. I'm now planning on writing a movie called the Motorcycle Diaries after I overthrow the government.

My birthday present to myself.

The main cause for traffic jams are the meandering water buffalo.
